Understanding Lashing and Equipment
Understanding Lashing and its Equipment is an application of binding goods or cargo to a means
of transportation. Lashing is done so that the goods do not move during the trip, be it land,
sea or air, so that the goods can reach their destination safely.
There are several tools that can be used for lashing applications, including the following :
1. Ratchet belt: a fastening tool in the form of a belt that has a fastening lever.
2. Manila rope: is a rope made from the Musa textilis plant.
3. PP rope: is a rope made of polypropylene plastic material.
4. PE rope: is a rope made of synthetic fiber, namely polyethylene fiber.
5. Stainless steel chain: is a type of chain made of stainless steel.
6. Turnbuckle: a tool for tightening rope or chain ties by turning bolts.
7. Loadbinder: a tool to tighten chain ties with a locking lever.
Lashing techniques are not only limited to tying up cargo,
but also include load organization management.
Goods need to be arranged in a neat and organized manner so as not to
take up too much space and can be lashed perfectly.
Before departing, the lashing work is checked first by conducting
a lashing securing survey by a surveyor. Then while traveling,
whether it is using land, sea or air transportation, workers must check the lashing condition
at least once a day to ensure that the goods are still tied properly.
All of these procedures must be carried out so that the goods can arrive at their destination safely and without defects.
After understanding the definition of lashing and its equipment and what the equipment is,
don't forget to always take care of the lashing tools and check them regularly.
Lashing tools that have been damaged must be replaced immediately because they are very risky to damage goods and endanger workers.
